A limited number of grants will be awarded during each intake, depending on available funding.

As of Fall 2023, approved grants will cover up to 80% of eligible education or professional development costs, with the remaining 20% to be covered by the grantee.

Eligible staff may receive up to $5,000 in Education & Professional Development Grant funding per fiscal year, with a maximum of $15,000 over the course of their employment.

Grants exceeding $1,000 require recipients to commit to a one-year service term with Victoria Hospital or ACCESS Fort Garry following grant approval. (Note: This service requirement is waived in the event of a layoff after receiving funds).

  • To be eligible, applicants must have a strong work record and be employed at Victoria Hospital or ACCESS Fort Garry as a WRHA/Shared Health employee.
  • Applicants must have completed at least 1,950 hours of service at an eligible site.
  • Employees on a leave of absence should wait to apply until they have returned to work.
  • Casual employees are not eligible.

Applications will be evaluated based on the value of the education or professional development opportunity to both the applicant and their respective site, considering the following factors:

  • How will the opportunity enhance the applicant’s performance in their current role (or a new role) at Victoria Hospital or ACCESS Fort Garry?
  • Will the opportunity lead to improvements in patient or client care?
  • Does the opportunity align with the applicant’s educational or professional development goals?
  • Will the knowledge gained be shared with other staff at Victoria Hospital or ACCESS Fort Garry?

Applicants must obtain support from their direct supervisor before completing the grant application process. Detailed instructions are included in the grant application.

Once applications are completed with supervisor approval, they will be submitted by Victoria Hospital Foundation to senior leadership at Victoria Hospital or ACCESS Fort Garry for review. After receiving senior leadership approval, Victoria Hospital Foundation will evaluate the funding request.

Approved grant applicants are required to pay for their education or professional development upfront. Reimbursement will be provided by the Foundation after the education or professional development has been completed.

Applicants must submit proof of completion and payment receipts within two (2) months of the program’s end date. Please note that only one (1) reimbursement request can be submitted per grant, meaning all proof of completion and payment must be submitted together.

Applicants may apply for education or professional development that has already taken place, provided the completion date is no more than one (1) year prior to the application date.

For upcoming education/PD, the activity must occur within the current fiscal year (April 1 to March 31). If it extends beyond the fiscal year, the application should only request funding for the portion taking place within the current fiscal year. Applicants may submit additional grant applications in subsequent fiscal years for any related costs incurred later.
