Psychiatry Awards of Excellence

Victoria Hospital Foundation seeks to promote excellence in adult mental health care and is proud to invest in Psychiatry Awards of Excellence to recognize psychiatry residents. The Victoria Hospital Foundation Excellence in Psychiatry Residency Award and Victoria Hospital Foundation Award for PGY2 Excellence are awarded annually at year-end graduation events to deserving psychiatry residents.

Excellence in Psychiatry Residence Award

This annual award recognizes an exceptional Psychiatry Resident who has completed a rotation at Victoria Hospital in the past year. It honors a resident who demonstrates outstanding knowledge, teamwork, and compassion in their psychiatric practice.

The recipient exemplifies the highest standards of patient care, addressing the unique mental health needs of individuals with empathy and expertise. This award celebrates their achievements and encourages ongoing excellence in psychiatry. Through this recognition, Victoria Hospital reaffirms its commitment to fostering clinical excellence and compassionate care among future mental health professionals.


1. The award will be presented annually to one resident.

2. Any psychiatrist at Victoria Hospital may nominate a resident by submitting a letter of recommendation.

3. The recipient will be chosen by the Awards Sub-Committee of the Postgraduate Education Committee.

4. The award will be presented during the year-end graduation ceremony.

Prize: $1,000

Award for PGY2 Excellence

This annual prize is awarded to a second-year psychiatry resident who demonstrates a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration in providing interprofessional care. The recipient actively seeks opportunities to learn and grow, continually improving their skills and knowledge. The award also recognizes a resident who is dedicated to delivering compassionate, inclusive, and non-stigmatizing care, ensuring every patient is treated with respect and empathy. This prize honors the essential qualities of a compassionate and driven healthcare professional in psychiatry.


1. The award is intended for second-year residents who have completed or are in the process of completing their PGY2 year during the current academic year.

2. One resident will be selected annually to receive the award.

3. The winner will be chosen by the Awards Sub-Committee of the Postgraduate Education Committee.

4. Nominations can be submitted by core supervisors and/or psychotherapy training supervisors who have directly supervised the second-year residents, or by teaching site coordinators for residents training at their respective sites.

5. Nominations should include a written description of no more than 500 words outlining how the resident has exemplified the qualities mentioned above. Preference will be given to nominations that are accompanied by a current CV.

6. If no nominations are received, the Awards Committee will select the winner from the pool of PGY2 residents.

7. The award will be presented during the year-end graduation event.

Prize: $1,000

Previous Grants Awarded

Victoria Hospital Foundation is proud to invest in two awards at the annual Psychiatry Awards of Excellence in recognition of the important contributions made by psychiatry residents at Victoria Hospital and across our healthcare system. For the second consecutive year, we presented awards to two deserving psychiatry residents at the year-end graduation banquet.

The Victoria Hospital Foundation Excellence in Psychiatry Residency Award was awarded to Dr. Wendy MacMillan-Wang. Dr. MacMillan-Wang was recognized for demonstrating knowledge, teamwork, and compassion in providing psychiatric care during her rotation at Victoria Hospital.

The Victoria Hospital Foundation Award for PGY2 Excellence was awarded to Dr. Nataliia Zinchuk. Dr. Zinchuk was recognized for her commitment to teamwork and supporting interprofessional care, her active commitment to learning and growth as a provider, and her strong dedication to providing compassionate and non-stigmatizing care.

Thank you to Dr. MacMillan-Wang, Dr. Zinchuk, and all psychiatry residents for the outstanding care you provide for our community. We are grateful for your compassion and dedication.
