Live Music Program Brings Comfort to Patients Thanks to You

Victoria Hospital Foundation and the Volunteer Guild of Victoria Hospital have been teaming up to fund the Music to My Ears program here at The Vic.

Your generous support is bringing the healing power of live music to patients, staff, and visitors at the hospital!

Launched in the summer of 2024, this program has had a tremendous impact. Musicians perform in a variety of settings, from playing soft, instrumental melodies during mealtimes or group programming like cooking and art classes, to delivering lively sets of rock ’n’ roll classics or modern pop hits that transform spaces into vibrant, concert-like atmospheres.

Recreation Therapist Hallie Burke explains, “These mini-concerts encourage patients to gather in common areas and activity rooms instead of staying in their rooms. This fosters connection and reduces isolation. Music acts as a natural icebreaker, sparking conversations and building a sense of community.”

It is so heartwarming to see patients smiling, tapping their toes, and nodding their heads to the beat. Your generosity has made these moments of joy possible.

Patients have shared their enthusiasm:

“I’ve been looking forward to this all day!”

“This was so relaxing and it made me feel calm.”

They’ve requested songs, asked musicians how to play instruments, and reminisced with others about concerts they’ve attended in the past.

This program is more than “just music.” It’s uplifting spirits, reducing loneliness, and brightening hospital stays—often a difficult task. Staff have observed improved moods and reduced symptoms of anxiety in the patients they support in the mental health program.

Thank you for making this program a reality and helping bring joy and connection to so many lives!
